How Heavy is Your Armor?

So often my clients come to me full of anxiety - they’ve been trying so hard for so long to alleviate it by pushing themselves to be the best at everything. To be a good employee, mom, friend, spouse, and human being. So afraid that someone will see the fear, anger, resentment, pain, and uncertainty bubbling up underneath.

They work so hard to make sure everyone’s needs are met so they can finally pause and rest (this never happens).

The idea of disappointing others, letting them down, or not meeting their emotional needs is almost unbearable.

The armor they’ve built up - starting as a child - has become so heavy that they aren’t even sure what’s underneath anymore.

But the truth is I’ve never found ugliness or brokenness underneath my client’s defenses.

Pain? Yes.

Wounds and scars? Definitely.

But allowing light and air into those dark and painful places - by exploring with someone safe, caring, and non-judgmental - can be such a healing experience. And that light and air can finally allow the seeds of their beautiful, weird, authentic selves to take root and grow.

If you’re ready to take a closer look at what’s getting in between you and your favorite self, I would love to help. Just click “Request a Session” and we’ll set up a time to talk.

Side note: The Cure is my favorite band and I’ve seen them four times over the span of decades. I fell in love with this poster and bought it for myself after seeing them again this summer. I love the imagery here and it 100% inspired this post.
