Grief: Two Sides of the Same Coin

One of the most comforting things I heard after my mom’s unexpected death was this:

Grief and love are two sides of the same coin. The more you love, the more painful and deep the grief of losing them will be.

Oof. Yes.

My love for my mom was deep and profound. She was my person. My best friend.

Understanding that my grief was in direct proportion to my love didn’t help me avoid the pain of losing her. But it let me know that at the root of my grief was love.

And that over time, the pain of her loss would ease, but the love never would.

Because if love is at the root of your pain, it’s what will remain.

You will always miss them. It will never feel ok that they’re gone.

But love… it’s a part of you now and nothing can take that away.

Let me know if you need support in your grief. It can sometimes feel like you're carrying this deep invisible pain, but you don’t have to do it alone.
